If you have a puppy, you may think of it as your baby, and the idea of feeding it baby food may come to mind. However, this isn’t a good idea.
Puppies have specific foods for when they are young because of the special diet plan and nutrients they need to grow. Baby food does not contain the necessary ingredients to provide a balanced diet for a dog or puppy.
Baby food can contain foods and other ingredients that are good for dogs, such as onion powder. Onions have a toxic ingredient for dogs, which is known as thiosulphate, which damages the dog’s red blood cells and can cause hemolytic anemia.
There may be some baby food such as vegetables or fruit that can be suitable for your pet, but make sure to read the ingredients, as some might have onion power and other unwanted preservatives or ingredients.
The next time you are feeding a puppy and think of it as a baby, make sure you stick with the special dog food or formulas found in pet specialty stores, and not baby food.
