As gross and disgusting as lice is, fortunately it can’t jump from human to dog. Since lice is a species-specific bug, it can only live while it’s in contact with humans. There is a very short amount of time that it can survive without being on a human host. Since lice need to have human contact and hair to survive, should one jump onto a dog’s hair, it would soon fall off or die.
It is still important to remember to clean all of your dogs toys, furniture and bedding, as lice can still live in these areas and once again gain contact with humans and spread. To kill lice, it is important to use hot water when washing, and using the highest setting for the dryer.
