A: Dust baths are an essential part of a chinchilla’s hygiene routine. The dust cleans the chinchilla’s fur. Chinchillas must take a dust bath every day. A dust pan should be provided for 15-30 minutes daily. The dust can be purchased at pet stores. You will need to pour 2-3 inches of dust into a box. The box should be at least 6x6x9 inches. Completely replace the dust every 2-3 weeks.
Q: Do chinchillas need toys?
A: Chinchillas do require wood blocks or branches to play with and chew. Chewing wood files down their constantly growing teeth. Chinchillas will also enjoy having a house or hut to sleep within. Any toys should be too large to swallow whole.
