Why Do Dogs Spin Before Laying Down?

How many times have you been sitting near your dog, then they go to the bed or onto a carpet, then they start spinning around in a few circles before sitting down? It’s a pretty funny sight, and while you might think your dog is just going a little loopy, there is actually a reasoning behind the process.

Dogs will spin, or walk around in a circle before sitting or laying down, because it is a train passed down from their wild counterparts. In the wild, dogs or canines would spin in their desired resting spot multiple times to make sure they there were laying on a level and soft surface… specifically to make sure there aren’t any rocks or anything else harmful in their path.

So why the heck would a dog still have to spin before lying down on a comfy bed in your home? Simply because this trait keeps getting passed down from generations ago!
