Have you ever wanted to let your dog out in the rain, but before he/she runs out, they stop at the door and look around or are hesitant to go outside? Of course, this happens with many dogs.
The common belief is that dogs don’t like the rain or are scared of the concept (or thunder that usually comes along with it). While thunder is usually terrifying to dogs, the reason why most dogs will pause before going outside is that rain actually amplifies the sound outside.
We already know that dogs and cats have super human hearing, so imagine what the sound of a billion rain drops would sound like to a dog!
So once you open up the door for a dog to run outside in the rain, the immediate impact of the sound to the dog might be what’s holding it back from running outside like it usually does.
If you dog is hesitant about going outside right away, try leaving the door open a bit and letting them get used to the rain and sound they are hearing.
The only thing worse and harder than trying to get your dog to go out during a rain storm is trying to get them back in!
