Isn’t it funny how cats will choose to sleep in a sock drawer instead of the giant new bed the humans just bought? Cats are pretty particular about where they sleep. I sometimes wander around the house looking for my cats, calling their names while they blissfully sleep in their covert sleeping spots.
Before my fiancé and I adopted our kittens we were SO excited to finally have cats! We literally couldn’t wait. We ordered a big cat bed shaped like a fish and we had romantic visions of our petite kittens sleeping there. Later as adult cats they would spend their days within that big yellow and orange fish bed. Wrong answer!
As tiny kittens they slept in a cheap squishy bed we bought to put in their crate. Once they outgrew the crate they slept in a bathroom and alternated between that cheap bed and some blankets. Minimal interest in the giant fish bed. Fast-forward and they are now almost a year old. Sometimes at night when I stumble to get a glass of water I tell myself I see one of them sleeping within that fish bed, but honestly I have no clue.
Cats like to sleep in a spot where they feel comfortable and safe. However, their definitions of comfortable and safe sometimes differ from ours. My cats currently love to sleep in clothes drawers or perilously perched atop my hip while I sleep on my side. During the day they sprawl out in a dozen different places. My little girl loves to sleep in her carrier, which we leave open in the living room. That is a real blessing since she finds comfort in her carrier as opposed to writhing hatred of it.
Go ahead and buy the extravagant cat bed with the built in heater or specialty design – your cat will probably request the sock drawer instead 😉
