Thanksgiving Tradition: The National Dog Show 10th Anniversary!

November 22, 2011 by PetFoodia

This Thanksgiving marks the 10th anniversary of The National Dog Show, sponsored by Purina and hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia.  Following the iconic Macy’s Day Parade each year, The National Dog Show has become a new Thanksgiving tradition for many.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, 78.2 million dogs are owned in the USA.  The National Dog Show seems like a good Thanksgiving tradition to me, since so many Americans own and cherish their dogs!

You can watch The National Dog Show Thanksgiving Day, which is this Thursday, November 24th!  Watch on NBC at 12pm directly following the Macy’s Day Parade.  Judges will award Best of Breed, First in Group, and Best in Show titles throughout the broadcast.  The winners of each

173 registered breeds of dogs will be judged in 7 groupings.  You might learn something new about your breed!

Example Terrier Breeds: Irish Terrier, Scottish Terrier, Cairn Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier

Toy Group:  The toy group has been bred as companion dogs

Example Toy Breeds:  Chinese Crested, Toy Poodle, Pomeranian, Shih Tzu, Pug
