3 Diseases That Can Harm Your Pet and You

There are 1415 pathogens that can affect humans and 61% of those pathogens are zoonotic or transmittable to dogs and vice versa. Harboring a disease that can harm your pet and you is one of the scariest situations that could happen to you. Vaccinated dog doesn’t mean that you are protected 100% of diseases from dogs. In general, diseases that are transmittable from dogs to humans vice versa and it is called zoonotic disease. So be careful in handling your dogs and be vigilant to report to your veterinarian when your dog is not feeling well.
Here are 3 dog diseases that can harm you and your pet:

• Rabies. Rabies is one of the deadliest diseases any human or animal can get from a bite of infected dog or eating and drinking contaminated foods which has been infected by a fruit bat. You can detect infected dog during feeding because they refuse to eat or drink. One of the noticeable sign is the dripping saliva from infected dog. Infected animals suffer from acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) which leads to the death of infected animals. The sign of the disease normally shows 10 days up to 10years after the exposure of the virus.

• Leptospirosis. This disease is one of the most common illness that has been rampaging both humans and animals alike. The said illness can be easily acquired through contaminated food, water, urine and stool. Dogs are often carrier of this microorganism. Leptosiprosis in dogs have 2 phases. The first phase of this disease is fever, chills, vomiting or diarrhea. An infected dog seems to recover but becomes sick again. In the second phase, dogs develop kidney and liver failure which is characterized by the yellowing of the dogs’ eye and skin.

• Ring Worm. Ring worm is one of the not so good skin diseases your pet can acquire from other dogs or you can acquire from your dog. This skin illness is caused by a different type of fungi. Fungi infection on the scalp can lead to dandruff to dog and to you. Ring worm infection on the skin of your dog shows a red patch, ring shape or elevated red patch that is very itchy resulting into a rash formation which can be scaly, dry or wet and crusty.

These diseases that can harm you and your pet are pretty much scary but can be prevented by vaccination, good hygiene and proper waste disposal, by doing this you are showing to the world the importance of your dog.
